APIC Palmetto welcomes all visitors and members to our chapter's homepage. We are an organization committed to preserving and improving the health of the residents of South Carolina. APIC Palmetto is the local chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., an international association with the primary goal to direct, support and improve the practice and management of infection prevention and the application of epidemiology. APIC’s ultimate goal is to advance patient safety by reducing the risk of infection.

APIC Palmetto became a chartered chapter of national APIC on September 17, 1982 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. The chapter is comprised of members from all over our state and represents our 3 regions - Upstate, Midlands and Lowcountry. Regional meetings are held throughout the year.

Our chapter participates in multiple partnerships and collaboratives with other organizations, agencies and groups within S.C. These councils and committees promote and have input into quality healthcare delivery, healthcare research, and state public health policy formulation. Many of the policies and recommendations work toward the goal of the prevention of healthcare associated infections.

APIC Palmetto is dedicated to the education ofits members, other clinicians, patients and the public. Our annual educational conference and regional meetings are the primary resources for meeting our educational needs, but our website and member networking keep us well informed throughout the year. Our mentoring program pairs seasoned infection preventionists with those just starting out in this exciting field.

Infection Preventionists apply the science of infection prevention and control to the persons most deeply and personally affected – patients and families, visitors and healthcare workers. Infection Preventionists can be found in a large variety of healthcare settings across our state, including – Hospitals; Longterm Care and Acute Longterm Care; Ambulatory Care; Acute Care; Home Care; Hospices; Public Health; Behavioral Health; Emergency Preparedness; Correctional Systems; and more.

We invite you – members and non-members - to explore our website and see what we have to offer. And we would love to have you join us in our quest for preventing infections. Our members have from 30 days to 30+ years of infection prevention experience and we’ll always have room for more.

Cindy Moon, RN, BSN, CIC
